"DRELLA'S BASEMENT" - Episode 1

The first installment of the Drella’s Basement series took place on June 3rd, 2023, in the basement of Peadar Kearney’s, a traditional Irish pub located on Dame Street in the heart of Dublin City. At the time, the basement had been unused for several years. We undertook a full renovation and deep clean of the space, transforming it into a temporary exhibition venue. Once the participating artists were selected, we began the curatorial process, adapting the unique setting to showcase a diverse range of emerging practices.

Behind the grilles of its cave a knock-kneed being is watered
By an unknown handfalls and stands in the aperture
Its flesh dressed in desire falters, wavers before
Shedding its encumbrance and rising,
Rising bare
Past pylon perennially stretching
Until struck by the lonely ascent: barren beams,
Defunct machines, only black memory awaits;
Sinking now,indifferent,
into
the
Depths,
where cigarettes convulse
bright in the company of naval mines,
To wait again for the tipping of the watering can.
On the surface of cold waters a solitary
swan dissolves itself
